The Rotary Club of Weatherford donated $5000 to Stars and Strides Therapeutic Stables to purchase stables for their riders. This money came from a Rotary Foundation district grant that helps fund activities in our local community. Stars and Strides is a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization established in 2012 to give riders with disabilities a place to learn and become effective and competitive equestrians. Students are taught equine care, riding, handling, and management to their best level of ability. For children and adults with disabilities, working with horses like ours can be a life changing experience. David and Teresa Miller have seen our riders improve in areas including communication, physical accomplishments, social skills, and self-esteem.
"Our riders enjoy their time here on our horses. The smile on their faces says it all," said David Miller.
The Rotary Club of Weatherford also made a donation of $500 to the American Legion for their Wreaths Across America campaign. This $500 donation was matched by Weatherford Noon Lions Club. Both clubs tied in their Games of Weatherford event and voted on the American Legion to be the recipient of this year’s donation. Rotarian Vice-President AND Lion President Andy Browning presented the check from Lions Club with President Beau Rees, presenting the check from Rotary, to Post Commander John Cobb and Auxiliary President Nancy Cobb.
